If you know me, or only follow me on social media, you know that my long-haired dachshund, Fonzy is the love of my life. However, there is still room in my heart, and a big piece of it belongs to coffee. (“Coffee coffee coffee,” as Loralei Gilmore would say.)
I’m easing my way back into a new self-care routine. After seeing all of the bright green matcha drinks on my instagram feed, I decided to do my research and learn about this alternative to coffee. And when I say did my research, I mean I talked to my brilliant friend Alyssa Lavy, registered dietitian, who gave me a quick breakdown of the pros and cons of matcha. The biggest con for me is that it’s not coffee.
I decided to give it a try. Alyssa sent me to Trader Joe’s, where I bought single serve packets of matcha and coconut milk creamer, because apparently matcha is more bearable in latte form. Good for me, because I’m always looking for extra places to add calories into my diet.
WARNING: DON’T SMELL THE LATTE BEFORE YOU DRINK IT.
I offered my mom the first sip. She smelled it before tasting it. She ended up not tasting it. I ended up not smelling it.
It’s only been a few days since I’ve replaced my late afternoon coffee with matcha lattes, so I’m not ready to give you a full report yet. As of right now, I can tell you I don’t hate it. And soon Alyssa will have her own blog post up to tell you the actual pros and cons of matcha.
